I absolutely LOVE when I get to take some creative license. I asked the parents of this little man if they had any themes or color schemes (I ask this before every maternity and newborn session), and Max from Where the Wild Things Are came into the conversation. I’ve done a Max setup a couple of times, but I try to always make a session unique. I’m not much for cookie cutter sessions. Sure, it’s easier, but that gets boring. 😉 Anyway, I had bought a “raft” to use with the Max setup awhile back, and never actually got around to implementing, so I decided this was the session to bring it out.
It’s still too cold here in Texas (and I imagine most other places in the country!), so taking baby outside was not really an option, not to mention I’m not actually going to put a baby adrift in the water! I set up the little “raft” in my studio:
Next, I found a location I could photograph to have a water scene. I tried to make sure that I could match the lighting from the studio, so that the end result is as realistic as possible. It’s really, really important to have your lighting match up. I conveniently found a spot, while doing a maternity session, that was absolutely perfect:
Now comes the fun/hard part: putting the images together to create the story of a sleepy Max leaving the land of the Wild Things to return home:
Of course, I still do a normal flow posing portion of the session, so you can have those classic photos and all of the details for your memory box. <3
